I have incorporated bucket loads of foreshadowing into Fallen Through, and I will be mentioning specific instances—not all–in this new series. I will also do my best to go in chronological order and adhere to the timeline of the novel, but if this doesn’t end up being the case, then here’s my apology in advance!
In the very early chapters of Fallen Through, I believe if I recall correctly both chapters one and two, I specifically make mention to the use of ecstasy in relation to a feeling. For example, Della describes falling in love as slipping down into the “ecstasy-filled sea” and Tyler reiterates this in the following chapter by comparing their love to “experiencing the highest ecstasy you can imagine” despite none of our characters partaking in narcotics use thus far.
This specific use of the word “ecstasy” isn’t then visited again except when our protagonists are partaking in using the drug, and not used as a descriptor; this was intentional. Additionally, ecstasy is the drug that Tyler eventually overdoses on in Chapter Forty-Six, and this is hinted at from the first chapter through this specific wording.
When I write that everything was planned in Fallen Through down to a T, I can assure you that this was very much the case with a lot of wording, phrases and sentences. There were so many references and hidden meanings written into Fallen Through that I’ve potentially forgotten half of them!
