The Ice Is Getting Thinner – Death Cab for Cutie
I remember discovering this song and falling in love with it in the Summer of 2016. I was late to the trend of Gossip Girl and only got around to watching it after my senior year was finished. I managed to get to the Season 1 finale where this song was played and I instantly added it to my playlist.
This chapter was an odd one for me to write as I truly didn’t know what Tyler was thinking during this time; was it the distance? the drugs? his friends and family getting in his ears? Unlike in the novel, Tyler’s family did know of my existence, and his mother was extremely religious and didn’t like me. I felt this novel was already complicated enough for me to write and that adding this as an element would be another wormhole.
But, I knew how I felt; I knew I was desperate to keep him happy and was trying to use money to win back his favour. I thought it was love, but I was only delaying the inevitable withdrawal from me. I also knew through Matthew that Tyler’s grades had started to suffer at school and that he’d had a meeting with his year level coordinator.
Mr. Palmer is based on one of my gaming buddies who also knew Tyler. I hope you’re out there and doing well, Box!
