This chapter is a personal favourite of mine as it flashes back in time to when Della and Tyler first started exploring their connection. Tyler yearns for Della’s love and affection, falling so quickly for her and not really understanding the intensity of it all. There’s this hope that she feels the same and that they’ll be together, and he drunkenly admits it over messages, desperate for her to be his girlfriend.
Though, for the time being, she feels untouchable and he can only feel her in his dreams. Then we flash forward to the end of the chapter where Tyler begs Della to move to Sydney to be with him so they can start a life together. It’s a special milestone and you can feel the character’s love and adoration for each other. We learn how their relationship started and where it is now, which is arguably at their strongest it will ever be.
Here’s one of my first excerpts I teased online from Fallen Through, and it came from this chapter. It’s definitely one of my favourite lines:
“Are we crazy?” she whispered.
“No, Della. We’re just in love, and we always will be.”
Yeah, we were happy.
