Time To Go – Dean Lewis
This is the first fight between Della and Tyler, and although this transpired in the previous chapter, we feel the impact of this event from Tyler’s perspective.
After being heavily manipulated by Evan, we see Tye panic and run off into the night, fearing he’s ruined everything. We see him immediately regret his behaviour, and try to rectify the situation, which fall on deaf ears as Della is no longer available. We live through Tyler’s high as he hits new skies and then crashes; we know that he is slowly spiralling as he runs through the cold, wintry evening, trying to call Della over and over.
We also can see Tyler reflecting on how Della brought the best out of him, and how alone he now feels due to his actions. We, the audience, know he’s let Della down and he’s fearing the consequences of his actions. However, when Della does eventually get in contact and accept Tyler’s apology, we see that after all that’s transpired, he lies to her and withholds important information from her about what really happened at Evan’s party. This shows that Tyler will still choose himself over the interests of Della and their relationship; is it due to his immaturity or something else that is brewing?
