Heaven is nowhere to be found on this Earth without you, Tye.
One sentence. Twelve words. Forty-Eight Characters. Forty-Eight Chapters.
Della first speaks this phrase in Chapter Two after Tyler informs her of his heart condition that he was born with. It is repeated at various intervals throughout the novel as it meant so much to both of the characters in Fallen Through. It also foreshadows the eventual fate of Tyler and how Della is left feeling distraught and empty.
Now for the Easter Egg… At the beginning of each chapter, the first letter of the first word spells out this phrase. The first word of chapter one is “He”, which gives us the H of heaven.
This also corresponds with the Prologue, as the scene from the opening occurs from Tyler’s perspective (rather than Della’s) in Chapter Forty-Six. Both of these Chapters start with the letter T, from Tye, which corresponds with the phrase spelled out.
I am rather proud of this detail and it was a struggle every time an editor would change it and I’d have to explain why I’d phrased the sentence in the way I had (even though it could’ve been written better). Hope this made you smile!
