Torn – Natalie Imbruglia
I remember the night I returned from Sydney, I immediately hopped on the PS4 while Tyler completed his school assignments. For whatever reason, I decided that I wanted to play by myself instead of my various friends also playing Overwatch.
Next to my gaming set up, I had a record player that could also play the radio and instead of retrieving one of my vinyls, I decided to listen to Mix 102.3.
“Torn” by Natalie Imbruglia came on, a song which I was familiar with, but hadn’t taken the time to stop and properly listen to. I did pay attention that evening and fall in love with the soft pop track. It didn’t reflect my current romantic situation, but as time went on, it eventually did.
I often wonder if that was the universe’s way of foreshadowing the direction my relationship was heading. Or, if it was simply warning me that everything between us was too good to be true. I was so besotted with him and believed everything he was telling me. If he had told me I’d fly if I jumped from a roof, I would’ve because I believed in him so much.
But alas, in this chapter, we see Della find out something we, the audience, know to be true, and she opts to believe in Tyler. Their relationship arc is like that of what appears to be a healthy tooth. White, and glossy on the outside, but on the inside, rotting at its core.
