Stuck With You – Huey Lewis and the News
Funnily enough, I’d actually included the lyrics to this song in my first draft of my manuscript but my editor removed them as it would be flagged as copyright. However, for more information, this was the song that Tyler played and that we danced to as implied at the end of chapter eleven.
It’s definitely still one of those songs that continue to haunt me as I can’t seem to detach the memory from the song. I still try and smile, though, as it is a groovy song and there’s clearly such meaningful intention behind the lyrics. It’s hard not to wonder if he still listens to some of the songs we danced to and think of us, or whether he’s found new songs to listen to with someone else.
Sometimes I feel so attached to the past as this manuscript has kept the memory of this flame alive, and memories that should be long forgotten have been immortalised through words. Every time I read through my work, I remember something that had been pushed to the back of my mind long ago.
This novel has mostly been fictionalised, though there are some moments that are based on fact, and the dancing to this song was one of them. I hope you enjoy one of those rare glimpses into what we were once upon a time.
