Hello! Late post this week as I have been run down with the flu… I like to try and write my blog posts earlier in the week so I can enjoy my weekend and focus on some other writing… Shh… But here we are!
This week, we are back to foreshadowing and this involves Tyler’s very hyperbole-filled language he uses when problems arise in his personal life. We all know that teenagers use very dramatic language—”If you don’t let me go to the movies with my friends, it will ruin my life!”.
This is very much the same with Tyler and on a myriad of occasions throughout Fallen Through, upon the realisation of extreme conflict, Tyler would often express himself by saying “It feels like I’m having a heart attack!”, or, “If I lost Della, I feel like I might die.” This kind of language was intentional as we learn that Tyler’s heart eventually stops due to a drug overdose at the climax of the novel. Every line that hints to his eventual fate was written to foreshadow this twist but it also hopefully blended in due to the nature of adolescents using this kind of language in their day-to-day conversations.
Have a lovely weekend!
