Chapter Forty-Four

right where you left me – Taylor Swift.

I love the universe sometimes. As I was finishing the re-read of this chapter, this song came on, and to say it perfectly sums up the theme of this part of the novel would be an understatement.

I was stuck for a long time after this break up, and truly traumatised to the point that I was unable to move on. It’s almost like I was frozen in place and everyone else moved on with their lives. This haunting folk song from Taylor perfectly expresses this experience for me and describes being doomed to stay in that place forever.

It truly took finding a very good therapist to be able to accept and let go of this trauma nearly three years after the relationship ended. But I felt that I had lost so much of my youth.

Fallen Through is about making something beautiful out of a tragedy; there can’t be suffering and agony for nothing. Now, it’s for art and that I can at least share something good out of such a bad situation.

Shout out to Alice who’s one of the only characters to keep their real name and help me make this break through essential to the novel. She is a brilliant psychologist.
